April at Rockledge: New Members Take the Reins

April was a busy month for the Alpha Sigma Phi Iota Chapter. To kick off the month, the brothers hosted a date night at Collegetown bar Hideaway, drawing a large turnout and reinforcing the chapter’s presence, with planning led by new member and Social Chair Paul Bettam-Northam ’29. Rockledge also held an internal brotherhood barbeque, providing an informal opportunity to build community across pledge classes, organized by new member and Vice President Matthew Schuyler ’28.

The dining room turned dancefloor.

On Friday, April 25th, Rockledge hosted viral DJ and 2× platinum producer McVertt, known for his work with Lil Uzi Vert, for a high-energy party that drew large attendance from across Cornell’s Greek community. The event was in large part planned by new member James Herzberg ’29, who has grown very involved in the Cornell DJ scene and managed the booking and logistics.

The above successful events point to a clear shift toward early ownership among new members, with underclassmen stepping into pivotal roles immediately after joining. In fact four of the eight new members have adopted leadership roles in their first semester of membership.

Looking ahead, the brothers are gearing up for “Rock Out Rockledge,” our big Spring Philanthropy event, which will host student bands and will offer food provided by the in-house chef.

Taken together, April highlighted how quickly new members are stepping up, turning involvement into impact as the chapter builds momentum heading into a strong recruitment process in the Fall.
