Did You Know Rockledge Has a Live-In Advisor?

Hello all, for those of you I have not met, my name is Noah Bell, and I currently serve as the live-in advisor (LIA) here at Rockledge.

Cornell University implemented a mandate in 2021 requiring an LIA in all fraternity and sorority houses. The requirement is consistent across all fraternities and sororities, reflecting a unified approach to student wellbeing and chapter development. The LIA can be, but is not required to be, an employee of Cornell University. They report to CLVEN (Alpha Sigma Phi National Housing and Property Management Organization) and the Iota Chapter corporation board and work with the undergraduates to ensure the house is well-maintained, in terms of its physical condition and operational efficiency. This creates a comfortable, livable space that supports brotherly activities and fosters a sense of collective ownership.

To accommodate the LIA position and ensure a comfortable and private living space, the house underwent renovations to combine two previously separate single rooms on the ground floor. A private bathroom was added to the newly configured suite. This careful consideration in the renovation process reflects the chapter’s commitment to supporting the LIA and ensuring the long-term success of the position.

While my role places me within the heart of the Cornell and Alpha Sig communities, I am not an employee of Cornell University or a current student. Despite this distinction, I have been consistently met with warmth and acceptance, feeling welcomed into the broader Cornell community and, most importantly, the close-knit Alpha Sig brotherhood.

The role of the LIA is broad, focusing on the brotherhood’s healthy living and the house’s maintenance. I interact with all the brothers and meet with the leadership to hear concerns about the house and brotherhood. Balancing the fun and social aspects of a fraternity while also making sure there is a supportive environment for academic excellence is a large part of the LIA role.

Outside of the fraternity, I have a deep appreciation for the beauty of Ithaca. Growing up here, I developed a strong connection to the community, making it difficult to imagine living elsewhere. Since taking on the position of live-in advisor, I’ve also discovered an interest in property management.
This newfound passion led me to manage an Airbnb property on Cayuga Lake. My goal is to move more into real estate, manage more properties and become a real estate agent. Beyond my professional and
residential life, I enjoy various activities such as waterskiing, golfing, and cards. Most recently, I’ve become quite captivated by the card game bridge. What I find particularly appealing about bridge is its intellectual depth and the continuous opportunity for learning and strategic thinking. Attending the bridge club of Ithaca twice a week is something I look forward to the most!

I’ll be at the house for Reunion 2025 and look forward to meeting some of you then!
